Lena Granefelt was born in 1966 in Stockholm, where she has worked as a freelance photographer since 1992. Commissions vary from advertising and editorial work to personal projects and books. She has a degree in documentary photography from Nordens Fotoskola and has predominantly worked with portraiture and travel photography. In the past she infused her pictures with energy – people, movement and great cities. Now a new, calmer direction has slowly come to dominate her work.
The picture “Autumngray” comes from her latest book “En trädgårdsmästares väg” (“A Gardener’s Way”). The first snow of winter 2011 didn’t arrive until December so Lena worked with the book’s author up until the last minute to complete it on time. Photographing gardens in the midst of winter was a new discovery. The mild tonal scale and the slumbering flora that remained before the snow enfolded everything inspired her greatly and set the tone for the entire project. The picture shows a climbing hydrangea and was taken on the first of December 2011.
